Partner Profile: Lets For Life In Their Own Words
By Catherine Bennet, CEO at Lets for Life
For Lets for Life, the real success of this partnership isn’t measured in properties purchased or developments completed. It’s measured in the lives that are changed.
At Lets for Life, we’re passionate about helping people with learning disabilities and autistic people find a home they can truly call their own. Not just somewhere to live, but somewhere they feel safe, happy, connected to their community, and able to live as independently as possible. We believe everyone should have the same opportunities to choose where they live and how they live, and we’re committed to making that a reality.
There is a huge shortage of suitable homes across the country, and demand continues to grow.
The challenge is that finding and delivering quality supported housing isn’t straightforward. There is a huge shortage of suitable homes across the country, and demand continues to grow. Great supported housing requires much more than simply buying a property. Homes often need specialist adaptations, careful planning, and ongoing collaboration between housing providers, support providers, local authorities, commissioners, and families.
At Lets for Life, we work hard to make sure every housing opportunity is genuinely needed and beneficial to the local area. Before moving forward with a property, we engage with commissioners and housing benefits to ensure there is clear demand and support for the project and it will be viable. We want homes to be developed because people need them, not simply because a property is available. We also ensure that the homes we provide align with the National Statement of Expectations for Supported Housing, with a focus on quality, choice, independence, safety, and positive outcomes for tenants.
One of the biggest challenges we face is finding investors who genuinely understand the supported housing sector. Many investors and developers are comfortable with traditional residential property, but supported housing is different. It requires patience, a long-term outlook, and an understanding that every decision should be led by the needs of the people who will live there. Too often, investors see the property but don’t fully understand the person who will call it home.
Housemartin understands exactly what good supported housing needs to be.
Housemartin understands exactly what good supported housing needs to be. They understand that quality accommodation for people with learning disabilities and autistic people often requires additional investment, specialist adaptations, and a collaborative approach to make it work. Their experience within the supported living sector means they appreciate the challenges we face and share our commitment to creating homes that have a lasting positive impact on people’s lives.
I believe our partnership works because we share the same values. We can have open conversations and bring a collaborative approach to finding solutions. Housemartin helps unlock the investment needed to acquire and develop properties, while Lets for Life ensures the homes are suitable, demand-led, supported by commissioners, and managed in a way that puts tenants first. Together, we focus on creating homes that enable people to live with greater independence, dignity, choice, and security.
For Lets for Life, the real success of this partnership isn’t measured in properties purchased or developments completed. It’s measured in the lives that are changed. Every new home represents an opportunity for someone to live closer to family, become part of their local community, gain independence, and enjoy the stability that comes from having a place they can truly call their own.
Housemartin has become a trusted organisation that understands our mission, supports our values, and shares our belief that everyone deserves a high-quality home. Together, we’re helping to tackle the shortage of specialist supported housing and creating opportunities for people with learning disabilities and autistic people to live the lives they choose – and we look forward to continue working with them to help deliver this.
